+Shameless Blog Promotion

1. Add every post you do to Delicious and Digg
2. Get some friends to do the same (get Digged); don’t over do it, but just make sure you get two or three Diggs per blog post. If your post is good, your readers will do the rest
3. Add your blog to engines such as ‘Blog Catalog‘ and ‘Technorati’
4. Update your Linkedin status update (‘New blog post: etc etc’). Don’t leave it there for a month, delete it after a few days
5. Make sure you tweet your post on Twitter. (While you are there, retweet some other people’s stuff too.)
6. Submit your blog post as a news article to a relevant Linkedin group
7. If your blog post is suitable for a debate, start a discussion in this Linkedin Group.

The above should take you about 20 minutes. It’s a great way of starting on your road to shameless blog promotion.

+Making Money

1. Online surveys
An increasingly popular way for students to make money is to fill out online surveys in their spare time. Research companies are always recruiting new members to answer surveys and test new products.
A few good ones to try are: Toluna, Vivatic, MySurvey, OnePoll, Valued Opinions, IPSOS, Global Test Market, The Opinion Panel, YouGov, Pinecone, SurveyBods, PopulusLive, Hiving, PanelBase, Branded Surveys, Opinion Outpost, Harris Poll, Mind Mover, New Vista, iPoll.
Also sign up for Swagbucks which rewards you for surveys as well as simply surfing the web, watching videos and playing games.

Sell Advertising Space. The most popular way to make money from a website is by placing ads on it. We all know what ads look like, but did you know that they function in many different ways such as Pay Per Click, Pay Per 1000 Views or Pay Per Time Frame.

3. Write and publish a Kindle eBook
If students are good at anything, it's researching and writing. With the Amazon Kindle store, anyone can publish an eBook and make money.
And the Kindle app is now available on almost any device (laptops, iPads, smartphones and yes, Kindles) so your global market is huge!
List your book for £1.49 – £6.99 and you earn 70% of the sale. Considering Amazon is the ultimate selling machine (and remember people are looking to spend), that is a fantastic deal.

To take it a step further, set up a website or a topical Facebook page and invite all your friends to join it and post your affiliate offers on there.

5. Become a ‘Clickworker'
The concept is based on ‘internet crowd-sourcing' where businesses advertise specific, scalable tasks they need completing quickly. And for us, it's an easy way to make fast cash from our couch.

7. Sell second-hand course books
One great way to make money is to buy other students' text books at the end of the year, and then sell them just after freshers' week – when the new intake of students know that they need them!

A domain name is just a website address (eg. ‘' or ‘') and there are lots of extensions (.com, .net, etc).
